This approximately 155-hour course is being conducted at Lewis County EMS in Weston, WV (Lewis County) beginning Monday, January 24, 2022 at 6:00pm.  Class will meet on the following dates: January 24, 26, 31; February 2, 5, 7, 9, 14, 16, 19, 23, 28; March 2, 5, 7, 9, 14, 16, 19, 23, 28, 30; April 2, 4, 6, 11, 13, 16, 20, 25, 27, 30; and May 2, 4, 7.  Class times will be 6pm-10pm on weeknights and 9am – 5pm on weekend dates.  The course instructor is Joe Spray.  Students must have access to a computer, reliable internet, and be self motivated to complete assignments and spend time studying outside of formal class hours.

The student will be responsible for payment of class tuition and fees of $575 by the 4th class session or must bring proof of authorization to invoice a department (form for this will be available at first session).  Tuition and fees covers the textbook, Navigate learning management system access, pocket mask, CPR certification, test voucher for 1st attempt at NREMT exam, and access to the EMS Testing online program.  Student will also be responsible for WV State Certification fees which are separate from, and outside of the control of, WVPST course costs.

The course also requires a clinical component to be completed outside of class hours during which you will ride along with an EMS agency to complete 10 patient assessments. These assessments must be completed in order to obtain WV certification as an EMT.  You will receive more information on the clinical component during the class.

Upon successful completion of the course, you will be eligible to sit for the National Registry of EMTs exam, with the initial exam attempt, as mentioned above, being included within the course tuition.  This test will be scheduled at your convenience at a Pearson Vue testing center.  If seeking certification in a state other than WV, you will not need to complete the WV certification process/fees, and will simply need to pass practical testing and NREMT examination before proceeding with the certification process in your desired state.

If seeking certification in West Virginia at the conclusion of the course, the West Virginia Office of EMS requires a $75 fee for certification which is paid online, and a $45 fee for fingerprinting/criminal background check. You will receive directions on that process during the class.

Pre- registration for this class is required. with class size being limited to 15 students.  Absence allowance is 10% of the total class hours = 15 hours. Make up of missed classes will be at the discretion of the course instructor.
