Occasionally, a class session may be held in a virtual format as opposed to in person. The instructor will discuss these details once class begins. The course instructor is Courtney Chaney. Students must have access to a computer, reliable internet, and be self motivated to complete assignments and spend time studying outside of formal class hours.
The textbook, first NREMT testing fee and FISDAP entrance and exit exam fees will all be covered for this class through a grant through the WV Jobs and Hope program (WV Residents only). The student will be responsible for class tuition fee of $300 (due by 4th class session). Student will also be responsible for WV State Certification fees which are separate from WVPST course costs.
The course also requires a clinical component to be completed outside of class hours during which you will ride along with an EMS agency to complete 10 patient assessments. These assessments must be completed in order to obtain WV certification as an EMT. You will receive more information on the clinical component during the class.
Upon successful completion of the course, you will be eligible to sit for the National Registry of EMTs exam, with the initial exam attempt, as mentioned above, being included within the course tuition. This test will be scheduled at your convenience at a Pearson Vue testing center. If seeking certification in a state other than WV, you will not need to complete the WV certification process/fees, and will simply need to pass practical testing and NREMT examination before proceeding with the certification process in your desired state.
If seeking certification in West Virginia at the conclusion of the course, the West Virginia Office of EMS requires a $75 fee for certification which is paid online, and a $45 fee for fingerprinting/criminal background check. You will receive directions on that process during the class.
