Firefighting is dangerous as well as physically and mentally challenging. Firefighter Survival and Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) operations are the highest priority when a firefighter is lost, disoriented, or trapped. Firefighter survival and RIT training programs teach self survival and safe extrication of a downed firefighter who may be injured, trapped or lost at an emergency scene.

Rapid intervention teams and practical applications aimed at locating a firefighter using the PASS device and removing him/her from a hostile environment. Skills taught include corridor search, large area search, SCBA harness conversion, proper use of the RIT Pack, one and two person drags, firefighter removal up or down a staircase, removal out a window utilizing various carries and ropes, as well as ladder assisted lifts from a basement.

This course is physically demanding and requires all students to demonstrate all skills taught in the program. Participants may be removed from skills rotations if they cannot physically complete tasks.

Full PPE is required and a complete SCBA with two bottles.
