Carl Haddon Resume

Required Equipment: Full turn out gear to include helmet, gloves, and eye protection for Saturday’s practical session.

Prerequisites: None

What makes this program really valuable is firefighters and EMS providers simply don’t know what is new and dangerous about how new vehicles are made and what they’re made from—and add to that the ever-growing challenges from electric vehicle battery fires. Very few of us can get state-of-the-art new vehicles to train on and burn. This is not a program that teaches students extrication and firefighting tactics. This is a program that educates firefighters and EMS providers about what they are up against with new vehicles. Metallurgy, new construction techniques, new safety lookouts, and hazards are discussed. Students learn about thermal runaway of lithium-ion batteries, how these batteries burn, and the incredible toxicity exposure that these fires create.
