We are reaching out on behalf of the Appalachian Initiative for Mindfulness (AIM). We seek to equip individuals from all workforce sectors to skillfully manage occupational stress and trauma by enhancing self-awareness, situational awareness, cognitive performance and human connection through compassion, empathy and non-judgment. As a leader in your field, AIM would like to invite you to attend an informational symposium and sample training to demonstrate the evidence-based training we provide and how we might work together to scale our work throughout West Virginia.
AIM began as a partnership between West Virginia University and Marshall University in 2017 with the delivery of Mindfulness-Based Resilience Training (MBRT) to law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency service personnel in West Virginia. Since then, we partnered with WV DHHR to provide training to first responders and a variety of health professionals and social service workers. This partnership allowed us to expand by training West Virginia-based certified mindfulness coaches drawn from the fields we represent, including EMS personnel, firefighters, physicians, psychologists, social workers, and others. With generous support from the Benedum Foundation, we are now looking to the future.
We have reserved two dates, and hope that you will take the opportunity to attend one of these free events to learn how we may be able to benefit your organization: April 4, 2025 in the Charleston area (WV Training Center in Julian, WV) from 9am-3pm, and in the Morgantown area (Monongalia Health Department) from 9am-3pm on April 11, 2025. Lunch will be provided.
For first responders in attendance, we will offer 4 hours of CEUs (OEMS and LEPSIS), though we enthusiastically welcome all leaders in the public safety, health, and social services professions. If you would like to attend, please RSVP to Dr. Brittany Canady by Wednesday, March 21st, one of our founding members, at b.canady@marshall.edu.
We hope that you will consider attending, and please feel free to share this invitation with other leaders that you believe may be interested in learning more!
