Handling Elevator Emergencies / Rescue (16 hours)
This 2-day course is designed for fire and rescue departments that respond to emergencies involving stalled elevators. Emergency personnel with inadequate training in “Handling Elevator Emergencies” are exposed to an increased risk of injury or death to both the victim and themselves. This comprehensive course will provide emergency responders with intensive classroom and hands-on training on how to safely and effectively remove passengers from stalled elevators. Topics include: nomenclature, safety, types of elevators, hydraulic & traction elevators, elevator safety devices, possible equipment needed, initial response steps, restarting a stalled elevator, lock/out tag/out procedures, elevator doors, use of hoistway door keys/pick tools, poling, removal of passengers from stalled elevators, fireman service (phase 1/phase2), use of elevators during high-rise fire operations, fire suppression involving elevators. New segment on new style elevators that no longer use hydraulic rooms or penthouses.
Equipment: NFPA 1607 Rescue Gear (helmet, gloves, eye protection, steel toe shoes, rescue apparel)
