Public Service Training – Clarksburg will be conducting a blended learning course for initial Emergency Medical Technician, starting 2/19/2022.  This blended learning Emergency Medical Technician course will cover the content and skills necessary for students to sit for the practical skills and cognitive examinations for EMT certification. If you are a self-motivated, goal oriented student who enjoys being challenged, then this is a great educational opportunity. If you are looking for an easy route to EMT Certification, then this course is NOT for you.  Students must have a personal e-mail account, computer, and high speed internet access.

The in person class meetings will be held at Cheat Lake VFD, Morgantown WV (Monongalia County) on the following dates: February 19; March 5, 19; April 2, 23; May 14, 28; and June 11, 2022.  These in person sessions will begin at 9:00am and run to 5:00pm.  The course instructor is Chris Battlo.

The textbook, Navigate Learning Management System access, EMS Testing program access, and first NREMT testing fee are all included in the course tuition fee of $800.  In order to secure a seat in this class, students must register for the course and submit tuition payment via check or money order (payable to Mountain State ESC) to:

WV Public Service Training – Clarksburg                                                                                                                          P.O. Box 40                                                                                                                                                                                    Bridgeport, WV 26330

prior to the first class session.  If you are a member of a department that will be paying the tuition, contact brian.potter@wvesc.org to obtain a copy of an authorization to invoice form that must then be returned to the WVPST office to secure your seat.

In addition to the online assignments and in person class sessions, the course requires a clinical component to be completed outside of class hours during which you will ride along with an EMS agency to complete 10 patient assessments. These assessments must be completed in order to obtain WV certification as an EMT.  You will receive more information on the clinical component during the class.

Upon successful completion of the course, you will be eligible to sit for the National Registry of EMTs exam, with the initial exam attempt, as mentioned above, being included within the course tuition.  This test will be scheduled at your convenience at a Pearson Vue testing center.  If seeking certification in a state other than WV, you will not need to complete the WV certification process/fees, and will simply need to pass practical testing and NREMT examination before proceeding with the certification process in your desired state.

If seeking certification in West Virginia at the conclusion of the course, the West Virginia Office of EMS requires a $75 fee for certification which is paid online, and a $45 fee for fingerprinting/criminal background check. You will receive directions on that process during the class.

Pre- registration for this class is required.  Class size is limited to 15 students.  Absence allowance is 10% of the total in person class hours.  Make up of missed classes will be at the discretion of the course instructor.

Interested persons should register by emailing brian.potter@wvesc.org, but seats will only be secured upon receipt of the course tuition or an authorization to invoice form from the students respective agency.
