The First Five Minutes: Initiating Operations at a Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) provides an introduction to the steps to take during those vital “first five minutes” of an incident involving multiple patients.  The course will review what constitutes an MCI, utilizing the incident command system (ICS), roles and responsibilities of the incident commander and triage group, lessons learned from past MCI events, and will provide practice patients to conduct triage assessments on.  There will also be a final scenario as an opportunity to practice decision making as the first arriving apparatus to an MCI.  This course is being delivered 100% online, and may be accessed using the link below.   Upon successful completion, students will receive a certificate of completion which will satisfy the WVOEMS requirement for two hours of MCI refresher training.  The course is able to be started immediately, and will be open and accessible until November 15, 2020.  Completion certificates will be issued following the close of the course on November 15.
