SUMMARY:Prehospital Management of Heat Illness: Are We Providing Evidenced 
 Based Treatment? - WEBINAR
DESCRIPTION:Hot summer days\, industrial settings\, sporting events\, and f
 ire ground standby all present potential opportunities for the emergency m
 edical services (EMS) provider to encounter patients suffering from heat i
 llness.  Heat stroke especially\, is a true medical emergency that untrea
 ted or treated incorrectly leads to death.  The good news is that when tr
 eated rapidly and appropriately\, heat stroke is 100% survivable.  Despit
 e this fact\, many EMS protocols do not reflect current evidence based tre
 atment for heat stroke.  This 1 ½ hour webinar course will include a rev
 iew of various types of heat illness\, differentiation between heat exhaus
 tion and heat stroke via clinical exam and rectal thermometry\, appropriat
 e heat illness treatment including cold water immersion\, and recommendati
 ons for heat illness prevention.  The course was previously presented in 
 person at ESCAPe 2020.\n\nThis 1 1/2 hour continuing education course for 
 EMS providers is being offered as an interactive webinar on July 28\, 2021
 \, starting at 2:30pm.  Brian Potter\, MS\, ATC\, NREMT is the instructor
