SUMMARY:Hazardous Materials Technician (HMT) 40hr Course
DESCRIPTION:Overview\n\nHazardous Materials Technician (HMT) is a five-day 
 course that prepares Operations-level responders for Technician-level Haza
 rdous Materials (HAZMAT) certification. This 40-hour course\, based on NFP
 A® 1072: Standard for Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Eme
 rgency Response Personnel Professional Qualifications and NFPA® 472 stand
 ards\, provides participants with HAZMAT-specific response knowledge and s
 kills\, enabling them to respond safely and effectively to a suspected inc
 ident at the hazardous materials technician level. Participants receive ha
 nds-on training in donning and doffing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  Levels A and B\, containing leaks and drum over-packing\, containing leak
 s in pressurized containers\, and performing technical and mass decontamin
 ation. The HMT course culminates with performance of these offensive-level
  tasks in an activity in which the participants apply the knowledge and sk
 ills learned in a simulated HAZMAT environment. Graduates have the opportu
 nity to take the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualification
 s (Pro Board) and the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (I
 FSAC) exam for HAZMAT Technician certification.\n\nTarget Audience\n\nThe 
 target audience for this course is operational-level responders with techn
 ician-level HAZMAT response duties\, assignments or requirements in their 
 jurisdiction.\n\nPrerequisites and Requirements\n\nTo be eligible for the 
 course\, the student must:\n\n 	Have a requirement or responsibility to se
 rve as a technician-level HAZMAT responder\;\n 	Complete PER-322 Hazardou
 s Materials Operationsor NFPA 472-conformant state or jurisdiction operati
 ons level hazardous materials training\;\n 	Complete independent study IS
 -100.b Introduction to the Incident Command System\, ICS 100\, or any of t
 he IS-100 series\;\n 	Complete IS-200.b ICS for Single Resources and Init
 ial Action Incidents\, ICS 200 or any of the IS-200 series\;\n 	Be capable
  of lifting tools and equipment up to approximately 50 pounds\;\n 	Be capa
 ble of standing and walking for prolonged periods\;\n 	Be capable of donni
 ng\, operating in Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)\, and doffing 
 PPE to include being physically and mentally capable of wearing a respirat
 or that conforms tightly to the face or equipment that encapsulates the he
 ad\; and\n 	Be capable of operating in confined spaces.\n 	No beards\n\nTo
