 MS Safety course (NAEMT) being held at the Burlington VFD on May 9\, 2026 
 at 9:00 am.\n\nINSTRUCTOR: Robert "Herk" Dawson\n\nCLASS COST: $25.00\n\nB
 OOK COST: $30.00\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nEmergency medical services (EMS) can be a d
 angerous profession. EMS practitioners are 2 ½ times more likely to die o
 n the job and 3 times more likely than the average worker to miss work as 
 a result of injury. To combat this epidemic\, NAEMT created the EMS Safety
  course to promote a culture of safety and to help reduce the number of on
 -the-job fatalities and injuries.\n\nNAEMT's EMS Safety course aims to pro
 mote a culture of EMS safety and help reduce the number and intensity of i
 njuries incurred by EMS practitioners in carrying out their work. The EMS 
 Safety course increases EMS practitioners' awareness and understanding of 
 EMS safety standards and practices and develops their ability to effective
 ly implement them. EMS Safety is the first national and most comprehensive
  education course of its kind that teaches techniques on how to best achie
 ve safety on the job.\n\nThis proactive safety program addresses:\n\n 	Int
 egrating crew resource management concepts in EMS\n 	Identifying and respo
 nding to the hazards faced by EMS professionals\n 	Applying current best p
 ractices for safe emergency vehicle operations\n 	Employing multi-agency p
 replanning\, vehicle and practitioner visibility techniques\, and defensiv
 e staging practices at roadside incidents\n 	Identifying strategies to pro
 tect both EMS practitioners and patients from injury\n 	Employing situatio
 nal awareness to continually assess for the potential of violence on the s
 cene and verbal and physical techniques to deescalate potential threats\n 
 	Strengthening resilience skills to help EMS practitioners cope with daily
  and critical incident stress\n 	Ensuring personal readiness for the daily
  challenges and hazards of working in the field through optimal personal h
