WV Firefighter 1, Module 1
The Charleston office of WV Public Service Training will be offering the pilot progam of the recently approved FF 1 Modular Training Program beginning August 14, 2017 at Tyler Mt. Volunteer Fire Department. Classes will be held every Monday evening from 6:00 PM to 10:00. Module 1 is scheduled to be completed on October 2, 2017. Classes will alternate between Tyler Mountain and Sissonville VFD’s Johnson Station. Cost for this program is $25 per module which is a reduced rate set just for this pilot program.
This Firefighter 1 Module 1 program is the pilot program introducing a 4 module system with content based on NFPA 1001 2013 Edition to firefighter candidates across West Virginia. Module I is the most basic fire fighter training module in the program. This module is approximately 33 hours in length and covers subjects such as: History of the Fire Service, Firefighter Safety, PPE and SCBA, Fire Service Communication, ICS, First Aid, CPR, and Haz Mat Awareness.
Testing will be conducted at the end of each module. Students in the modular program that successfully pass the module test will be eligible to conduct appropriate roles and responsibilities as set forth by the WV Fire Commission and the individual’s own fire department. After successful completion of all 4 modules, the firefighter candidate will receive a WV Firefighter 1 certificate.

Tentative start dates for the remaining 3 modules are subject to change but should start approximately:
Module 2 – October 16
Module 3 – January 8
Module 4 – March 5
All classes will be on Monday evenings but a few Saturdays might be needed for skills. To be determeined by the students and instructors.
